Classification: AO3 Marketing & Events Officer

Employment status: Temporary Fulltime for a period of 6 months

Role Purpose

The Communications Officer at Brisbane State High School will provide high-level administrative, communication, and technical support services to facilitate effective communication and promotion of school activities, programs, and achievements. The role supports the coordination of publications, visual communications, digital content, photography services, and media-related activities while maintaining compliance with departmental and school requirements.

Your Opportunity

As the Communications Officer, you will:

  • Provide administrative and operational support for school communication activities and initiatives.
  • Coordinate communication processes and produce materials that promote school programs, activities, and achievements.
  • Support the maintenance of digital communication platforms and visual communication resources.
  • Provide specialised support relating to photography, publications, media processes, and communication systems.

​Duties and Responsibilities

Carry out a range of duties as directed, including but not limited to the following.

​Communications and Publications

  • Coordinate the preparation, production, and distribution of communication materials including newsletters, publications, promotional materials, and school communications.
  • Coordinate the compilation, editing, production, and distribution of the school Annual Magazine, ensuring timelines and publication requirements are met.
  • Assist with the preparation of communication content for various digital and print platforms.
  • Develop and maintain a proactive and consistent online and social media presence to promote the school and to communicate responsively with the wider community.
  • Maintain communication records, templates, and publication schedules.
  • Maintain the school's Visual Identity Guide and support staff with ensuring the VIG is used across internal and external content.

Graphic Design and Visual Communications

  • Design and produce graphic materials including promotional resources, signage, digital displays, presentations, posters, and visual communication materials.
  • Ensure visual communication materials align with school branding and departmental requirements.
  • Provide graphic design support for school events, programs, and activities.
Photography and School Media Coordination
  • Coordinate photography requirements across school activities, events, and programs.
  • Capture, organise, maintain, and archive photographic resources for communication and promotional purposes.
  • Coordinate school photography processes including liaison with external providers, scheduling, communication, and distribution activities.
  • Maintain digital media libraries and image databases.

Media Consent Administration

  • Administer school processes relating to media consent collection, recording, storage, and monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to student and staff media permissions.
  • Provide administrative advice and support to staff regarding approved use of photographs and media content.

Media Crew Coordination

  • Coordinate operational activities associated with the student Media Crew including scheduling, organisation, communication, and supervision support.
  • Assist students participating in media-related activities through the provision of technical and administrative support.
  • Support student participation in photography, videography, and school event coverage activities.

Website and Digital Platform Management

  • Maintain and update school website content to ensure information remains accurate, current, and relevant.
  • Coordinate website updates and digital communication content in consultation with relevant staff.
  • Monitor digital communication platforms to ensure consistency, accessibility, and compliance requirements are met.

Administrative Support and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with school staff, students, parents, external providers, and community stakeholders regarding communication activities.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and provide responsive customer service.
  • Undertake administrative duties associated with communication projects and activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of communication systems and processes.
  • Support to the Events Team during major school events.
  • Other suitable duties, consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the position as directed by the supervisor or nominated delegate.

What We Are Looking For

The applicant will demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-level administrative and communication support services.
  • Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to prepare and edit communication materials.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Experience using graphic design, digital communication, photography, or content management systems.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise judgement within established procedures and guidelines.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Working knowledge of contemporary communication technologies and digital platforms.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information appropriately.
  • Possession of a current Working with Children Blue Card
