In July 2023, Brisbane State High School's Year 12 OzCLO team – consisting of Eunsu Choi, Emma Fensom, Yujin Lamuri and Tara McMillan-Rice – was invited to compete in the
International Olympiad in Linguistics in Bansko, Bulgaria, after securing the
runners-up position in the Australian Computational and Linguistics Olympiad
competition.
The International Olympiad in Linguistics is an internationally recognised annual Science Olympiad. Students collaborate in teams to solve problems using symbols, numbers and languages they have no knowledge of. They analyse the patterns in the examples provided, focusing their skills in problem-solving to be able to understand and reproduce that language in new situations. This competition is all about detailed analysis and
synthesis, decoding and re-coding.
We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our Year 12 team, who have
represented Australia on the international stage. They have won both the Junior
and Senior Australian competitions since they started competing in 2020.
