The State High Gryphon
The State High Gryphon originated in 2009 as the Senior Gift to the school, aimed at encouraging School Spirit. A school-wide vote for the character resulted in our half-eagle, half-lion mascot we proudly cherish today.
The State High Gryphon
Excerpt from the 2009 School Magazine
"The year could not be completed without something for the seniors of 2009 to present to the school, and fundraising, research and proposals throughout the year were all geared to a very special 'thank you'. Historical notes were consulted and opinions from school community members were taken on board to come up with a very memorable gift. A mascot, in the form of a gryphon with Brisbane State High School colours, was presented at graduation. It had been test-run by one of us and was decided upon wholeheartedly (and enthusiastically). All the hard work definitely paid off, for the State High Gryphon will be an enduring gift."
Charlotte Glab – 2009 School Vice-Captain
Several students (and the occasional staff member) have served the honour of wearing the Gryphon suit. Best known for drumming up State High Spirit, you'll find the Gryphon supporting the Blue-Red-Blue at sporting and whole school events, such as State High Day, reading in our Library and even popping up on school social media accounts.
