Alumnus Tane Kirisome (Class of 2020) — who was State High's GPS Basketball Firsts team captain and 2020 Basketball Excellence Award winner — recently played for the Tall Blacks (NZ Open Men’s team) against the Boomers in the FIBA Asian Cup qualifiers. The Boomers won the game 81 – 52. Tane was given a good amount of court time; he scored one point for a free throw and played very well. This is an outstanding achievement for someone who was wearing the Blue-Red-Blue just five months ago!
