How are students in the Aspire program assessed?
Aspire students are assessed against the Australian Curriculum achievement standard. A-E levels of achievement are the same for all students regardless of if students are in the Aspire program or not.
When do Aspire classes run?
Aspire classes run during the normal timetabled lessons.
What if I'm really good at Maths but not Science?
The Aspire program strand is for both Maths and Science. It is a combination program.
If students are only interested in English and Humanities, should they preference Aspire English and Humanities?
Yes.
If I have entry via the academic testing (academic merit), do I need to do the Aspire entry test to be in the Aspire Program?
No. Students who have enrolled at BSHS in 2026 via academic merit do not need to also sit the Aspire entry exam. Separate information will be provided with the option to select, if any, the Aspire program these students may like to be a part of. Please note that the selection of an Aspire pathway in the Microsoft Form does not automatically guarantee entry into your preferred Aspire option. As with the 2026 Year 7 Aspire Application process, merit academic testing data, along with NAPLAN data and academic reporting data will be used to make the final decision as to which Aspire option your student will be placed in.
What if I don't have NAPLAN results and/or a Year 6 Semester 1 Report?
Please let us know that at the time of submitting either of your document, or email bshsenrolments@brisbaneshs.eq.edu.au

'Conditional enrolment' requires students to commit to and participate in the Aspiring Minds program during Year 6.
The Aspiring Minds program engages students in:
- higher-order, creative and lateral thinking skills and processes
- problem-solving and decision-making
- complexity of challenge
appropriate degrees of independence and learning to work interdependently.
Students completing the Aspiring Minds Program must maintain a high level of participation and achievement to maintain their 'conditional enrolment' status.
During Year 6, students who have been offered conditional enrolment will be asked to provide evidence of their primary school levels of achievement.
Year 6, semester 1 reports confirming sustained high standards of commitment, behaviour and academic performance are necessary before the enrolment becomes unconditional.
View the Aspiring Minds page on the school website for further information on the Aspiring Minds program.
