The use of web-based educational resources has risen steadily over the last decade, and they are increasingly being used by teachers across Queensland to improve student learning outcomes.

From 2024 onwards, consent for the use of third-party applications will be collected through QParents. Consent for core learning applications will take place at the beginning of Year 7 and at the end of Year 9. Core learning applications, as outlined in the app lists available on the apps and resource list page, are fundamental to the learning environment and form a large part of everyday student workflows.

Consent for third party applications will be requested separately and collected via QParents.

More information on QParents is available here.

Brisbane State High School runs a thorough risk assessment process when selecting and implementing the use of third-party applications and web-based services. Brisbane State High School only uses applications which have been approved by the Department of Education (DoE) and or services which do not require sign in/collection of data.

Consent requirements fall under three categories:

  • Consent required – sign in is required and/or personal data is collected.

  • Consent not required – no sign in and/or collection of data or native iPad applications. Free versions of some applications are used in this manner.

  • DoE IT provisioned – applications provided as part of the Department of Education IT student provisions do not require consent.

The table below outlines which category third-party applications and web-based services used by Brisbane State High School falls under:
