At Brisbane State High School, we use Compass, an online school management portal, to streamline communication between the school, students, and families. It provides a central place for accessing important information such as attendance, timetables, assessment schedules, and school events. We use Compass to ensure families stay informed, engaged, and connected with their child’s learning and wellbeing, while also improving the efficiency of school administration and communication.

At Brisbane State High School, Compass is used in a variety of ways to support daily school life, including:

  • Recording and monitoring student attendance
  • Publishing student timetables and room changes via student schedules
  • Sharing important school announcements and news via our Compass news posts
  • Providing access to assessment schedules and tasks via the Compass calendar
  • Managing school events and excursions
  • Providing an easy way for teachers and parents/caregivers to communicate

How Do I Access Compass?

To access Compass, parents and students can log in via visiting the BSHS Compass portal here and/or app (App Store or  Google Play) using the unique username and password provided by the school. If you experience any issues logging in, such as forgotten passwords or access errors, you can use the “Can't access your account?" feature on the login page. For further assistance, please contact the school directly via email at compassadmin@brisbaneshs.eq.edu.au, and our team will be happy to help resolve any issues promptly.

Importance of Attendance

Regular attendance at school is essential for student success, and at Brisbane State High School we emphasise that every minute counts. Being present and punctual ensures students can fully engage in learning, build strong routines, and achieve their best outcomes. We encourage families to support consistent attendance and timely arrival each day. For more information about the importance of attendance, please visit Education Queensland's resources. A reminder that our school's daily timetable can be found here.

How Do I Notify the School of an Absence?

Upon logging into the portal or app, you can submit an attendance note explaining the reason for your child's absence, either in advance or on the day. This helps the school maintain accurate attendance records and ensures the safety and wellbeing of all students. Compass also allows you to track submitted notes and see whether absences have been approved. Detailed instructions can be found here. You can also view up to date records on your student's attendance at school by click on Attendance tab when you are logged into Compass.
