​🏆Director of Rowing - GPS Boys & BSRA Girls​

We are seeking expressions of interest for a Director of Rowing – locally known as Master-in-Charge of Rowing (GPS Boys & BSRA Girls). This role is to commence as soon as possible for a period of 12 months (possibility of extention). 

Brisbane State High School has a proud history where the Extra-Curricular (E-C) Program forms an integral component of the State High experience. Tradition is valued in order to acknowledge the past and maintain a consistent identity. The E-C Program aims to offer a range of activities (Sporting, Cultural and Other) that provide opportunities for students to participate, learn, develop and excel. Sporting activities include The Great Public Schools' Association of Queensland Inc (GPS), Queensland Girls' Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA), Brisbane Schoolgirls' Rowing Association (BSRA) and other competitions offered by sporting and other associations. Location – Brisbane State High School Rowing Sheds, 150 Jane Street West End, and Brisbane State High School cnr Glenelg and Cordelia Street South Brisbane

Classification – Depending on experience (Teacher qualifications desirable but not essential) ​

Status - Temporary Fulltime position – 38-hour week.  Hours will be flexible and will require work outside of normal work hours, including Saturdays.

About the role​

Leadership of Rowing program

  • Lead the strategic development and operational delivery of the BSHS rowing program that aligns with the schools' values.
  • In partnership with the Directors of Sport, Head of Extra Curricular to deliver a safe, professional and efficiently managed rowing program.
  • Recruit, develop and retain high-quality volunteer coaching staff and allocate appropriate crews based on each coach's skill and experience to ensure student development at all levels.
  • Conduct regular coaches' meetings to support the technical development and ongoing professional learning.
  • Liaise with Strength and conditioning staff to ensure all rowers are undertaking an appropriate athletic development program to support their involvement in rowing.
  • Lead the design and implementation of clear and transparent selection criteria for all crew selections.
  • Lead the management of equipment and fleet ensuring assets are maintained and purchase requests align with program needs
  • Plan and support the effective participation of teams in regattas, organising logistics including transport of students and equipment.
  • Create and foster professional relationships with staff, volunteers, students, parent and rowing communities
  • Communicate information to all stakeholders in a professional and timely manner using appropriate communication platform/s

​Resource and Risk management

  • Develop and manage the Rowing budget to support program goals
  • Prepare and implement a strategic equipment purchasing plan
  • Ensure all boats and equipment are maintained to a high standard and meet safety, compliance and performance requirements
  • Consistently adhere to school policies and procedures, especially in the areas of Risk Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Child Safety, incident reporting and emergency response protocols
  • Productively manage risk across all rowing activities to ensure a safe environment for students, staff and volunteers.

Suitability Assessment Criteria

  • ​Prior experience is desired
  • Minimum Level 2 NCAS (National Coach Accreditation Scheme)
  • Working with Children
  • “C" class drivers licence
  • First aid certificate (or willingness to obtain)
