At Brisbane State High School, we offer a one-year selective entry Enrichment Program called 'Aspire'. The Aspire program comprises of two strands of study for Year 7 :

1. Maths/Science; and
2. English/Humanities

The courses offered explore topics in greater breadth and depth than normally required and thus enable learners to develop an appreciation of the wider context of the subject area. Students who enrolling at the school via Academic Selective Entry are not required to apply. All other students, (Local Catchment, Sporting Selective Entry or Cultural Selective Entry – Visual Art or Music), must apply to be considered for this program.

We are changing the way in which interested students apply for Aspire. Further information will be provided via a Virtual Session via Teams.

This virtual information session will be held on Tuesday 9 September 2025 at 5:00pm.

Year 6 Conditional Enrolment | Aspiring Minds program

'Conditional enrolment' requires students to commit to and participate in the Aspiring Minds program during Year 6.

The Aspiring Minds program engages students in:

  • higher-order, creative and lateral thinking skills and processes
  • problem-solving and decision-making
  • complexity of challenge

appropriate degrees of independence and learning to work interdependently.

Students completing the Aspiring Minds Program must maintain a high level of participation and achievement to maintain their 'conditional enrolment' status.

During Year 6, students who have been offered conditional enrolment will be asked to provide evidence of their primary school levels of achievement.

Year 6, semester 1 reports confirming sustained high standards of commitment, behaviour and academic performance are necessary before the enrolment becomes unconditional.
