On Sunday 24 February, Advaith Suresh (2019 School Vice-Captain) represented Brisbane State High School in the Lions Youth of the Year Quest. Advaith competed in the Camp Hill-Carindale Lions Club competition against two other students from Whites Hill State College.

The Lions Youth of the Year Quest was initiated in Queensland by the late Past International Director Jamie Jamieson and Past District Governor Syd McDonald in 1963.  It is now a widespread Lions project supported by all Lions Districts and involving thousands of contestants each year in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

As part of the competition, Advaith participated in a Q&A session with the judging panel, an impromptu response to topical questions and finally a prepared speech. Advaith represented Brisbane State High at an exemplary level winning the Public Speaking component of the day with his impromptu response and his prepared speech titled 'Universal Basic Income'. Whilst Advaith did not achieve the overall Lions Club award, his achievements on the day and his commitment to the award were exceptional. Congratulations Advaith!
