Friday, our school community farewelled our 2019 Year 12 students at the
Brisbane State High School Graduation Ceremony, presented by Hawley
Constructions, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. We enjoyed the
company of Mr Archer Hamilton (Class of 2008), Editor of The
Betoota Advocate, as
our special guest speaker.
At the ceremony, we were pleased to announce our 2019 David Sutton Award for All-Round Excellence winner, our 2019 Dux of Year 11 – Harvard Book Prize and our 2019 Dux of the School, as well as our 2020 School Captains and Vice-Captains.
The David Sutton Award for All-Round Excellence
Mr David Sutton was the Executive Principal of Brisbane State High School from 1998 to 2008. The 'David Sutton Award' celebrates the culmination of outstanding performance in the criteria of academic excellence, service to the school community and involvement in extra-curricular activities over the entirety of the recipient's time at the school. This year, the recipient of the 'David Sutton Award for All-Round Excellence' is Esandi Kalugalage.

2019 Dux of Year 11 – Harvard Book Prize
The Dux of Year 11 is awarded to the highest
academic achiever in Year 11. This year, the recipient of the ‘2019 Dux of Year
11 – Harvard Book Prize’ is Sohini Kundu.

2019 Dux of the School
Mr George W. Lockie was Principal of Brisbane State High School from 1961 to 1971. This trophy is in recognition of his contribution to the school prior to his passing in 1971 and is presented to the 'Dux of the School' who, this year, is Madeleine Orr.

Congratulations to these students on their incredible achievements.
2020 School Captains
Tess Lynn and Ethan Willis were announced as our 2020 School Captains and Mia Norman and Issei Stephenson as our 2020 School Vice-Captains. We look forward to their leadership and contributions to the school.
Our students also showcased their incredible dance and musical talents; there were outstanding performances by our Symphony Orchestra, The Extension Chords, Senior Girls Vocal Ensemble, 'Pavlovic and Pearce' and our Senior Dance Troupe.
