The BSRA Head of the River was held at Wyaralong Dam, Beaudesert, on Saturday 31 August. State High entered 14 crews which comprised of 74 girls from Year 8 – 12 in an event that attracted nearly 10,000 spectators. The conditions were perfect for racing, with a light breeze, still water and blue skies. Almost every crew managed to achieve season-best performances in each of their races.
Some notable performances were the Senior IV crew which topped off a great season with third place and Sophie Malcolm with a win in the Year 9 Single Scull. This was the first win by a State High crew at the Head of the River in six years. Other notable performances include Ella O'Dwyer who had the race of her life in the Year 10 Single Scull until she literally rowed herself to a standstill. A special mention also goes to Alexandra Grady who completed her Year 10 First Quad race and then immediately jumped into the First VIII to race with them for the first time this season. She selflessly helped the First VIII who lost a rower through injury on the day. It was this spirit of camaraderie and support that was evident throughout the day, and was the measure of a successful day for State High BSRA Rowing.
We also wish to acknowledge our BSRA Rowing Captains, Maddy Ng (Year 12) and Tatum Skinner (Year 11) for their phenomenal leadership this season.
